My filmmaking journey is defined by a seamless transition from high-level advertising conceptualization to deep, impactful narrative filmmaking. As Rana Masud, I strive to merge commercial precision with artistic storytelling.

The Fragrance (আতর)
I directed and wrote this gripping drama to address dark social injustices, religious hypocrisy, and human vulnerability, loosely inspired by the tragic reality of Nusrat Jahan Rafi. The story revolves around Farooq Mollah, a deceptive madrasa teacher, and his son Maruf, a young boy who is deeply unsettled by the strong scent of his father's perfume but finds solace in the natural fragrance of hyacinth flowers. This sensory aversion fuels intense domestic conflict. The narrative takes a devastating turn when Maruf witnesses his father abusing his childhood friend, Shiuli. Traumatized and pushed to the brink of psychological distress, Maruf faces a moral and emotional collapse that drives the climax of the story. For this profound project, I had the privilege of casting veteran actor Shahiduzzaman Selim alongside actor Roopkotha.

The Residence (নিবাস)
As the director and screenwriter of this short film, I crafted an emotionally resonant narrative exploring the vulnerabilities of indigenous communities, human relationships, and displaced dreams within the mountainous regions of Bangladesh. The story centers on Nibash Marma, a landless youth from the Marma tribe, who works as a laborer and desperately dreams of owning a home in a landscape that his ancestors once ruled, but is now dominated by outsiders. Taking advantage of his innocent aspirations, a manipulative middle-aged broker named Alauddin traps Nibash in a deceptive scheme. Under the cover of a moonlit night on a mountain peak, Alauddin lures Nibash into digging the earth with false promises of a secured future, only to brutally shatter his dreams. Through Nibash's struggle, the film reflects the systemic exploitation, emotional trauma, and hardships faced by marginalized individuals. I am deeply honored that this cinematic work has been celebrated and recognized across multiple national and international showcases.

The Battles of Belonia
I directed and produced this detailed historical war documentary to preserve the glorious and strategic history of the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh. The film chronicles the pivotal Battle of Belonia in Feni, focusing on the intense military blockade that kept the occupying forces completely besieged from November 5 until their historic surrender on November 10. Through rare insights, the narrative depicts the fierce joint operation where the Mukti Bahini fought alongside the Indian Army's 83 Mountain Brigade and Brigadier Sandhu's 3rd Dogra Regiment of the 23 Mountain Division, launching a decisive artillery assault that shattered the enemy lines. Marking a major historic victory, the battle led to the surrender of 72 invading forces—including 2 officers and 70 soldiers—to the 10th East Bengal Regiment. This documentary serves as a profound cinematic tribute to the historic strategies that cost around 500 enemy casualties and the ultimate sacrifice of our martyred freedom fighters.
